Multiplayer invasion mechanics aren't often used in modern AAA games, and it would be a real shame if Arkane just abandoned its unique take on it.ĭeathloop is available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.The story of Deathloop follows assassin Colt “The Captain,” as he tries to take out eight targets in a single day while stuck on Blackreef, a mysterious island stuck in a time loop. New progression systems could be made to reward players that managed to survive the longest, and players who managed to eliminate their target could be rewarded with better gear for their next match. A potential multiplayer spin-off would take these brief moments and make an entire game out of them, expanding on Deathloop's invasion mechanics to produce a more complex multiplayer experience. Some of Deathloop's most memorable moments revolved around Julianna disrupting the perfect run, and the tension of possibly losing all of that progress and having to start again. Much like Assassin's Creed's competitive multiplayer back in the day, this would lead to incredibly intense scenarios where one player is facing off against their bounty while their own hunter is hot on their trail. But the real hook is that each player is also being hunted themselves. A multiplayer Deathloop spin-off would simply need to take the original game's Colt-Julianna cat and mouse gameplay, and ramp it up.Ī Deathloop multiplayer spinoff could throw 4-6 players into a fairly large arena, and give each player a specific target to take down. A minimum of four players, and a maximum of about six would suit Deathloop's mechanics perfectly. One of the key additions would be to add more players to the game. With Deathloop already having a surprisingly complex invasion system, with Julianna having her own dedicated skill-based progression system, a potential future multiplayer spinoff already has the groundwork to build upon. Though the jury's still out on Redfall, with it not releasing until next year, it seems like the perfect inspiration for a Deathloop multiplayer spin-off. Redfall sees up to four players face off against hordes of vampiric monsters, using an arsenal of unique weapons and classic Arkane game abilities. ![]() RELATED: Deathloop Announces Goldenloop Update With a Trailer A Multiplayer Deathloop Spin-off Could Be GreatĪrkane's upcoming game Redfall is the first true multiplayer-focused game for the studio. Deathloop's invasion mode has a lot of potential, which a future spin-off game could really tap into. The Masquerade ability lets Julianna hide as an NPC, which can be used to ambush unsuspecting players. Julianna is dropped relatively close to Colt, and is given a few weapons and abilities to make their fight a little more even. ![]() While Julianna is often controlled by an AI, a second player can jump in at any time, and disrupt the other player's loop. Deathloop's multiplayer functionality allows a fellow online player to assume the role of Julianna, and there's plenty of room to expand on this mode in the future. Along with henchmen, the player has to deal with Julianna Blake, the Visionaries' head of security, who will hunt Colt down in every loop. If they don't manage to carry out the assassinations in one fell swoop, then they'll have to start all over again, stuck in a time loop. In the boots of Colt Vahn, Deathloop sees the player attempt to assassinate eight targets all in one day. Being one of the first truly next-gen games on the PlayStation 5, Deathloop quickly earned a name for itself in the gaming community. ![]()
